At least 10 people, including a teenager, were injured in a shooting at an apartment building in Madison, Wisconsin on Sunday, police said.

Officers were responding to a rooftop party at the Lux Apartments around 12:45 a.m. when dispatch alerted them to a shooting. When they arrived, dozens of people were trying to flee the building, officials said. Police Chief Shawn Barnes said during a press conference that a teenager had multiple gunshot wounds and was lying in a pool of blood on the street, according to CBS News affiliate WISC.

“Officers were informed that there were possibly more victims in the building,” Barnes said during the press conference. “As a result, Madison Police officers bravely climbed 12 flights of stairs to the rooftop not knowing who they might encounter. They found some people in various states of distress, and some people were even hiding in maintenance closets in an attempt to get to safety.”
